Keep Windows 10 up to date.
Get your drivers from Windows updates or the computer manufacturer.
Most mailware infections are still delivered by email. Be carefule with hyperlinks and/or attachments. Fishing software can appear to be from a friend or acquaintance you have listed in your addess book.
My recommendations for new computers are Windows 10, 64 bit Operating System with 8GB memory.
Nice features to consider are are card readers, an HDMI port on a laptop.
Should you receive such a call, it is a scam. Hang up, clean your computer or have someone check it soon. If lightly infected, it would probably get worse if you do not take care of it. This could be a serious threat to your computer and your data.
Be suspicious of of any programs that you did not install.
Check to see if the email is from a valid email address. Sometimes it will have a contact in your address book listed. It may not be their correct email address.
If you see misspelled words, just a single line with an odd email link, delete the email.
Be careful of popups trying to update your computers drivers or clean your system.
They may give you more than you bargained for.
